PROJECT IOWA GRAD: LANNY FRANSISCA LIE

Tell us a little bit about yourself. My name is Lanny Fransisca Lie and I am originally from Indonesia. I moved to the US in September of 2019. I have 15 years of professional experience with some international exposure, mostly as an accountant and auditor.

When did you participate in Project Iowa’s program Cultivating Careers? I joined Project Iowa in May 2020 when the pandemic had just started.

Why did you participate? I joined Project Iowa because I wanted to prepare myself for job search in the US and meeting new people because I did not know anybody here beside my husband.

Did you find your purpose by working with Project Iowa? Explain. I did. Before I joined Project Iowa, I have started to apply to some open positions in several companies. The results were disappointing. This made me feel down and lose my confidence which led to a worse situation. I became very sensitive and easy to get mad. The Wellness and Path to Purpose curriculum helped to channel my feelings, thoughts, and find calm, stillness, and re-gain my confidence. As I have the right mindset, I can focus on how to do and prioritize things to get the expected results especially during the job search. Job seeker and digital classes also had significant part for a successful job search. These classes introduce you to digital and computer technology and train you on how to prepare yourself to answer job interview questions properly.

What are you doing differently now because you went through Project Iowa? I have a higher level of awareness on my wellbeing. I can manage my stress level properly. I have better preparation for my job interview.

Why does Project Iowa matter? Project Iowa matters because it does not only give people the “fish” but also the “fishing pole for fishing”. It gives people not only the way and skills to get a job but also a foundation to be able to survive the madness from job world.

Why should others use Project Iowa’s services? Project Iowa’s services are beneficial to all parties, a legit win-win solution. Employers will have access to a pool of a good quality potential workers. Project Iowa’s participants will have bigger opportunity to have a job. Project Iowa’s as an organization will continue to exist and provide its services to other in needs.
